Prince Albert Vineyard
Red WinePrince Albert Pinot Noir 2019
Prince Albert Vineyard, situated on a 2-hectare site in the Waurn Ponds Valley near Geelong, Victoria, exemplifies the principles of organic winemaking. Since 1998, both the vineyard and winery have followed the stringent organic certification standards established by the Biological Farmers of Australia. This dedication ensures that the wines are produced without residual synthetic chemicals and with an emphasis on minimizing environmental impact.
The vineyard, originally established between 1857 and 1882 and revitalized by Bruce Hyett in 1975, occupies a prime north-facing slope with 0.5 meters of terra rossa topsoil over limestone marl—one of Australia's most sought-after locations for wine grape cultivation.
All grapes used in the wines are grown exclusively on the estate. The vines are pruned and harvested by hand to ensure the highest level of care. After harvest, the grapes are either lightly crushed or subjected to pigeage in open, wax-lined concrete fermenters, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for about twelve months in a blend of new and old French oak barriques, with minimal sulphur dioxide added before being bottled on-site.
