Hárslevelű, meaning "linden leaf" in Hungarian, is a native white grape variety known for its floral, spicy character and rich texture. It plays a key supporting role in Tokaji Aszú, adding aromatic lift and honeyed depth to Furmint’s structure, but also shines on its own in both dry and sweet styles. Dry examples offer notes of pear, linden blossom, and gentle spice, while botrytis-affected sweet versions show honey, apricot, and dried citrus. Thriving in Hungary’s volcanic soils—especially in Tokaj and Somló—Hárslevelű is also grown in Slovakia, Romania, and to a lesser extent in Australia and South Africa.
