Slovakia’s wine industry appears to be at an inflection point, producing increasingly elegant whites from Furmint, and Welschriesling, alongside structured reds from Frankovka Modrá (Blaufränkisch). Besides those three grapes, you can find much of Central Europe’s ampelographic heritage here. While it might be tempting to immediately draw comparisons with Hungary and Austria, there are enough producers today in Slovakia producing world class wines that a comparison is no longer helpful.
