Radikon needs no introduction in the world of orange wine.
In the mid-1990s, Stanko Radikon began making skin contact white wines from his family’s vineyard holdings in Oslavje, straddling the border of Italy and Slovenia. He believed that time spent on skins would lead to a fuller and more interesting expression of Ribolla Gialla, the region’s main indigenous white grape.
The resulting wines heralded a wave of natural and skin-contact winemaking, of which Radikon remains an icon. Stanko’s son Saša now leads the estate, continuing to farm organically and practice minimal intervention winemaking. He has introduced the S series, more approachable wines that see days of skin contact as opposed to months, and less than a year in oak instead of 5 or more.
These are serious wines of structure and complexity, challenging but very rewarding. They’re released in very limited quantities, and represent the singular style of a benchmark producer.
