Tokaj, located in northeastern Hungary, is one of the world’s most historic and prestigious wine regions, it's also a UNESCO world heritage site, along with only six other wine regions. It is renowned for its unique sweet wines known as Tokaji Aszú. The region’s distinctive terroir, with volcanic soils and a climate influenced by the Tisza and Bodrog rivers, creates ideal conditions for producing these rich, honeyed wines, but also dry white wines of incredible power, acidity, minerality, and concentration. Tokaji Aszú is made from grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which concentrates the sugars and flavours, resulting in a luscious, complex wine with notes of apricot, honey, and citrus, balanced by refreshing acidity. In addition to Aszú, Tokaj also produces dry and semi-sweet wines, often from the Furmint and Hárslevelű grape varieties, which exhibit a crisp minerality and subtle spice. Tokaj’s winemaking tradition dates back centuries, and its wines have been celebrated across Europe, famously referred to as the "wine of kings and the king of wines." Today, Tokaj continues to be a benchmark for quality, with its wines cherished by connoisseurs around the world.
