Born out of a need for local reinvention, Stanko Radikon sought invigoration in the way his local grape varietals were expressed in the family’s approach to creating white wine. Natural winemaking aims for minimal intervention, avoiding chemical processing and sulphites, letting the grape’s natural ageing and flavours shine through as a true expression of the fruit.
It was with this perspective that Radikon Wine took a heady departure from traditionally accepted winemaking norms during the mid 90’s, as Friulian methods surrounding the family’s local northern Italy eventually inspired a preservative-weary and jaded Stanko into more radical (but ironically time-tested) methods.
Increased contact time and maceration between skins and white grape juice, oak-barrelled storage akin to red winemaking colouration, and a focus on extracting tannins for preservation built on more natural processes - the result is the sunkissed, amber-hued colouring and funky, vibrant flavouring that the natural wine has since become synonymous with.
