Drawn from the cooler upper Yarra, where elevation, cloud cover and frequent rainfall slow ripening and preserve acidity. The soils here are heavier and more moisture-retentive than the valley floor, giving a tighter, more linear style.
Fermentation includes a portion of whole bunch, with extraction kept restrained. Élevage in French oak is moderate, used to shape rather than soften the wine.
Red cherry, cranberry and dried herb lead, with a more pronounced savoury and stalk-derived spice. The palate is mid-weight, with firmer acidity, fine tannins and a longer, more structured finish.
