Quinta do Infantado
Fortified WineInfantado Tawny 10 Year Porto
This wine is an old-vine field blend of over 20 grape varieties, grown on select 6-hectare Class A plots in Serra di Cima and Serra Douro, where the soils are nutrient-poor schist. The hand-harvested grapes are partially destemmed and fermented traditionally in *lagar*, with fermentation halted by adding 77% wine brandy. The aging process spans 8 to 15 years in *pipas*—traditional 550-liter wooden casks whose horizontal orientation, smaller size, and thin staves promote oxidation, making them ideal for tawny ports. In contrast, larger wooden tanks like *tonels* or *balseiros* are used for ruby and vintage ports. The 10-Year version is balanced at 20% ABV with 85 grams of residual sugar per liter, and only 4,000 to 6,000 bottles are individually numbered and released each year.
