Benoit Marguet
Red WineBenoit Marguet Coteaux Bouzy Pinot Noir 2018
A stalwart in the realm of natural winemaking, Benoît Marguet stands as a prominent figure not only in Champagne but globally. Representing the fifth generation at the family's Domaine in Ambonnay, he manages 8ha of venerable vines, averaging 40 years of age, predominantly in Ambonnay and a smaller portion in Bouzy, both esteemed Grand Cru locales within the Montagne de Reims.
Benoît champions terroir-focused viticulture, fervently advocating for practices that enhance land health. As a testament to his commitment, all his vineyards have earned organic and biodynamic certifications. Since 2010, horse ploughing has been a regular feature, underscoring his dedication to tradition and sustainability.
His approach seamlessly integrates biodynamics, herbal remedies, and aromatherapy, ensuring vines thrive in their native limestone soils. In the cellar, gravity directs the workflow, and distinct terroirs get individual barrel fermentations followed by an extended maturation period. Benoît's minimal intervention philosophy means sulphites are only introduced under specific conditions, and even then, in minimal quantities, typically during harvest.
