Johanneshof Reinisch
Red WineJohanneshof Reinisch St. Laurent 2019
Situated in Tattendorf, within Lower Austria's famed Thermenregion, lies the estate. The name 'Thermenregion' owes its origin to the geothermal springs flowing beneath its vineyards, providing an optimal environment for the cultivation of particular wine varieties. Now overseen by the fourth generation, Johann Reinisch's trio of sons - Hannes, Michael, and Christian - manage the expansive 40-hectare property. Boasting a viniculture heritage spanning 2,000 years, the Reinisch family remains rooted in tradition, cultivating 65% red and 35% white vines across their vineyards.
Renowned for their exceptional Pinot Noir and St. Laurent, the grapes thrive in two contrasting terrains: the chalk and lime-rich alluvial gravels of Tattendorf and Gumpoldskirchen's fertile, elevated grounds. The family's commitment to regional grape varieties and time-honored practices shines through, as evidenced by their dedicated vine nursery in Gumpoldskirchen, where they nurture native varieties like Rotgipfler and Zierfandler. Given that a mere 100 hectares globally house these indigenous white grapes, the Reinisch wines offer a distinctive insight into Austria's vinicultural heritage. Embracing organic farming practices, the Reinisch approach reverberates from the vine to the vino, ensuring every bottle encapsulates their ethos.
