Vinea Marson is the Heathcote-based project of Mario and his daughter MadeleineMarson, established in the early 2000s following a career that spans both Australian and Italian winemaking. Marson’s background includes formative work in Friuli, and the project is grounded in a long-standing interest in Italian varieties and their adaptation to Australian conditions.
The vineyard sits on Heathcote’s red Cambrian soils, where varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Glera, and Garganega are established. The approach is consistent: varieties are matched to site, and handled in a way that prioritises structure and drinkability.
Ferments are managed without excess, oak is used sparingly, and the wines are released with some time in bottle for conditioning. Vinea Marson remains one of the most sustained and consistent examples in Australia of Italian varietal work carried through with intent rooted in vintage and site expression.
