Victoria Torres Pecis
Red WineVictoria Torres Pecis 'Las Rosas' Listan Negro 2018
In continuous production since 1885, this is the oldest winery still operating on La Palma. The current owner and winemaker Victoria Torres, however, has breathed a new modern edge into the wines since taking over from her father in 2015. Since the 2018 vintage, the winery has been known as Victoria Torres Pecis Vinos y Vinas, in keeping with the tradition of renaming it each time it passed from one generation to another. The name though also recognises the very different trajectory the winery is now taking under Viki’s stewardship.
Geographically the area is fascinating and features the most active volcano in the Canaries, which erupts every 40 or 50 years. It creates pure black, fresh volcanic sand to the south, while in the north, amazing old vines sit at over 1,000m altitude on older, red volcanic soils.
'Las Rosas' Listán Negro: a single incredibly steep vineyard that rises from 450-600m absl in the south of the island. It’s farmed by two young friends of Viki’s and this is the first vintage she has vinified.
