White WineSzent Donát Márga Furmint 2024
The Márga comes from Furmint is most famous for its role in the wines of Tokaj, but over the last two decades it has become increasingly important in other parts of Hungary, particularly where growers are seeking varieties capable of expressing site with precision and retaining acidity in a warming climate. At Szent Donát, Furmint has found a natural home on the limestone, marl, and red sandstone soils of Csopak (Choe-pack), where it produces wines of structure, minerality, and longevity. The name "Márga" translates as "marl", referencing one of the defining soil types of the region and the geological foundation of the wine. The estate farms organically and has played a central role in the modern re-evaluation of Balatonfüred-Csopak as one of Hungary's most important white wine regions. The wine shows citrus, green apple, quince, white flowers, and subtle spice, supported by a saline mineral character and the firm acidity that has made Furmint one of Hungary's most compelling white varieties.
