Red WineJean-Baptiste Souillard Saint-Joseph Janoune 2021
From Jean-Baptiste Souillard’s parcel “Janoune” in Saint-Joseph, planted on steep granite slopes, this Syrah is drawn from old vines at altitude. Souillard works with a high proportion of whole clusters and élevage in mostly used oak, shaping the wine’s structure and detail. The nose opens with black cherry, blackberry, and violet, with black pepper, graphite, and a light smoky note. The palate is structured, with fine, persistent tannins and a mineral line carrying dark fruit and savoury spice. Acidity is fresh and direct. The finish is long, dry, and stony, marked by pepper and a faint ferrous edge.
