Red WineCantine Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema Carema Classico DOC 2021
Situated in Northern Piedmont, 100 kilometres north of Barolo, Carema DOC is one of Italy's smallest winegrowing areas. The appellation encompasses the steep terraced slopes of a natural amphitheatre at the southern end of the Aosta Valley. Here, sparkling mica schist and moraine (glacial) limestone soils help ripen grapes at altitudes of 300-600 metres. Piedmont's most important red grape Nebbiolo is called Picotener here, and it produces lighter, more herbaceous expressions with finesse, acidity, and minerality.
Cantine Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema is the local growers' co-operative, who pool resources to produce elegant, age-worthy Nebbiolos. Vines are trained traditionally on low pergolas called Topia, supported by stone pillars that also function to radiate heat stored during the day into the vines through the cold nights.
The 2024 vintage is an elegant mountain Nebbiolo. Aromas of red cherry, dried rose, and earthy spice lead to a refined palate with firm tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven finish. A classic expression of Carema's alpine terroir.
