The 2021 Sangiovese from Vinea Marson is drawn from Heathcote, where Mario Marson has worked with the variety over two decades. The site’s red Cambrian soils and warm days with cool nights give a firmer, darker expression than many Australian Sangiovese, while retaining line and acidity. The 2021 season, moderate and even, allowed for steady ripening and clean tannin development.
Fermentation is handled with restraint, with extraction kept measured and oak used sparingly. The wine sits in the mid-weight range with sour cherry, dried herbs, and a light iron edge typical of the site. It finishes dry, with fine tannins and a savoury line.
