Piccolo Derthona is Walter Massa’s more immediate expression of Timorasso, drawn from younger vines and earlier-picked parcels around Monleale in the Colli Tortonesi. This cuvée is intended to show the grape’s varietal clarity in youth, while retaining its hallmark structure. Fermented and raised in stainless steel, it carries citrus peel, green apple and honeyed flourishes, with an almond-skin bitterness that is typical of the variety. The palate is firm and textural, driven by bright acidity and a flinty saline line that reflects the marl and limestone soils of the Tortonese hills.
