White WineSadie Family Wines Sonvang 2024
Sonvang is the debut release from a vineyard planted in 2019 on the granite soils of the western Paardeberg, now part of the Sadie Family range. The name translates as “Sun Catch,” referring to the site’s exposure to the afternoon sun.
The vineyard is co-planted with a range of Mediterranean varieties, including Alicante Bouschet, Agiorgitiko, Tinta Barocca, Grenache, Cinsault, Pontac and Lledoner Pelut. The parcels are currently picked and vinified separately, with a view to future field blends. The 2024 was fermented with 30% whole bunches.
The aromas are savoury, with smoked paprika, hickory, rosemary, bell pepper and struck flint. The palate sits in the mid- to full-weight range, with dark fruit and a firm, granular tannin structure.
