From the high elevations of Mount Veeder in Napa Valley, Mayacamas Vineyards farms Cabernet Sauvignon on volcanic and sedimentary soils in a markedly cooler, later-ripening environment than the valley floor. Fermentation and ageing follow the estate’s long-established approach, with extended élevage in large oak casks before release. The 2020 carries blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum with bay leaf, graphite and dried herb. The tannins are firm and structured, giving the wine a steady, linear profile with a restrained, savoury finish. It remains tightly composed and will benefit from time in bottle.
