Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2023

This big bottle comes from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard above the Mosel, produced by Joh. Jos. Prüm. The site’s steep, south-facing slopes of blue Devonian slate give a compact, finely structured expression, with Spätlese sitting below Auslese in ripeness but retaining concentration through careful selection.

The 2022 vintage delivered clean fruit with moderate botrytis, allowing for a more classical Spätlese profile. Fermentation was slow and cool, preserving aromatic detail and the estate’s characteristic low alcohol and high acidity.

Green apple, white peach and citrus lead, with floral notes and a pronounced slate edge. The palate is light to mid-weight, with residual sugar balanced by acidity and a long, precise finish. The magnum format will allow for slower development and extended ageing.
