Jean Tardy Echezeaux Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Les Treux 2022

From the grand cru vineyard of Echézeaux, and specifically the lieu-dit Les Treux, this wine comes from old vines planted in 1937 on clay-limestone soils beside Grands Echézeaux. Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils works with hand-harvested fruit, a fully destemmed fermentation with minimal punch-downs, and an élevage of around 18 months in barrel, with a high proportion of new oak. In 2022, the wine shows the scale and authority expected of a grand cru: dark cherry, plum and spice, with more depth and breadth than the domaine’s village and premier cru wines, but still enough limestone tension to keep the finish firm and defined.
