Red WineGripa Saint-Joseph Parady 2022
From steep granite slopes in the northern Rhône, this 2022 Saint-Joseph comes from Domaine Bernard Gripa, one of the benchmark family estates of Mauves, directly opposite Hermitage and historically central to the appellation’s finest sector. The Gripa family has farmed here for generations and is particularly respected for classical, terroir-led Syrah and Marsanne. “Parady” is sourced from lieu-dits around Mauves on decomposed granite soils, where naturally low vigour vines and warm exposures deliver concentration while retaining the tensile structure associated with Saint-Joseph. Fermentation is traditional, with élevage in oak used judiciously to support rather than dominate the fruit. The warm, generous 2022 vintage gives dark cherry, blackberry, cracked pepper, and violet, layered with olive tapenade and smoked spice, while firm but polished tannins carry the wine through a long, mineral finish. Within Saint-Joseph, bottlings from Mauves are often regarded as among the appellation’s most serious expressions, owing to their proximity in geology and exposition to Hermitage itself.
