Domaine Denis Mortet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2022

From holdings within the Clos de Vougeot, Domaine Denis Mortet works with Pinot Noir planted on the mid-slope section of the clos, where thinner soils over limestone give greater definition than the deeper clay of the lower sectors. The domaine farms without herbicides, with strict yield control and detailed canopy work, and harvests by hand. Vinification is largely destemmed with selective whole-bunch inclusion, followed by indigenous fermentation and careful extraction. Élevage is in French oak with a high proportion of new barrels, reflecting the scale of the site. The 2022 carries dark cherry, plum and blackberry with rose, spice and a subtle ferrous note. The palate is dense and structured, with firm, persistent tannins and a long, mineral line that anchors the finish.
