Blood Moon Moonrise Fiano / Vermentino 2025

2025 Blood Moon Wines 'Moonrise' Fiano/Vermentino is a blend showcasing deft balance between these two Mediterranean grapes. Aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, and a hint of saline minerality set the stage for a crisp, textural palate. Notes of ripe pear, apple, lemon blossom, and a subtle herbal quality, a kiss of tarragon maybe.

Winemaker Matt Aulich sourced Fiano and Vermentino grapes from Chalmers' Merbein vineyard in the Murray Darling. Merbein is home to the Chalmers nursery, and their mother block of vines, where they grow and test climate-tolerant grape varieties to supply vines to growers across the country, including Australia's first plantings of Fiano and Vermentino. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed and co-fermented, one quarter in a new French oak barrel, and the rest in steel. After 21 days of fermentation the wine rested in mostly neutral barrels for 6 months, with the only addition being a touch of sulphur before bottling.

Blood Moon wines are made from responsibly sourced grapes, mostly from across Victoria. Small production means it's possible to be attentive in the winery, resulting in minimal intervention wines that speak of time and place.
