Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée 2023

From several village parcels in Vosne-Romanée, Benjamin Leroux sources Pinot Noir from older vines on clay-limestone soils, working under long-term contracts with growers farming on organic or near-organic lines. Fruit is hand-harvested and sorted, with a measured proportion of whole bunch retained depending on parcel and vintage, followed by indigenous fermentation and careful, low-extraction handling. Élevage is in French oak with a restrained proportion of new barrels. Vosne-Romanée sits at the centre of the Côte de Nuits, containing a concentration of Burgundy’s most historically significant grand cru vineyards, and has long been associated with the most complete and enduring expressions of Pinot Noir. The 2023 shows red cherry and plum with rose, spice and a subtle sandalwood note. The palate is structured and composed, with fine, persistent tannins and a steady, mineral line through the finish.
