Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Rouge 2023

From the La Fussière premier cru in Maranges, at the southern limit of the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Bachelet-Monnotfarms Pinot Noir on steep, limestone-dominant slopes with a cooler, later-ripening profile. The brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet work with a vineyard-first approach, favouring organic practices, careful canopy management, and precise picking decisions. Vinification is largely destemmed with selective whole-bunch use, followed by indigenous fermentation and measured extraction. Élevage is in French oak with a restrained proportion of new barrels. The 2023 shows red cherry and raspberry with rose, spice and a light savoury edge. The palate is structured and finely detailed, with firm, well-shaped tannins and a persistent, mineral line through the finish, reflecting the higher-altitude limestone site.
