From Irpinia, where altitude and volcanic soils shape a cooler, more structured expression of southern Campania, Ognostro is built primarily on Aglianico with a small proportion of Piedirosso. The 2021 is fermented with native yeasts and handled with minimal intervention, then aged in large, neutral oak to retain varietal clarity. The wine shows sour cherry, dark plum and dried herbs, with a distinct ferrous note and a firm, earthy undertow. The palate is structured and persistent, with fine, grippy tannins and a long, savoury finish that reflects both the grape and Irpinia’s austere terrain.
