Red WineAperture Farms Under the Sun “Flower” 2022
Ryo Tanabe moved from Tokyo to Tomi City, Nagano with the intention start growing organic vegetables and eventually grapes in 2011.
His farm is located at an altitude of 600-800m and is conveniently nestled right next to Yutaka from Domaine Nakajima whom he currently shares a space for brewing.
Similar to Nakajima, the climate is cool and drier than the rest of Japan so European varieties are favoured amongst the mountains with plantings of Chenin, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
His own cultivation so far yields only a few hundred bottles each year, however, this year looks promising for the first substantial yield from his own vineyard.
Barrel aged Kyoho grown at Aperture Farm. Firm tannins and rich acidity creates structure similar to a fruit forward Gamay.
