Commune of Buttons
Red WineCommune of Buttons Gloria Pinot Noir 2023
Commune of Buttons began with a single dream between brother and sister, to continue as second-generation growers of grapes, the custodians of a piece of land called ‘Fernglen’ 70 acres of bush paddocks and vineyards in the Adelaide hills at Basket Range. Their dream was to return to the place they had grown up in, to come home to explore new imaginings and opportunities that the soil and sun could conjure.
The wines are made naturally with only minimal sulphur additions and slow, gentle ferments. With each release, the wines are more refined and detailed. They are wonderfully pure, unadulterated and as loveable as the family who makes them.
The ‘Gloria’ vineyard, 1 hectare of 30-year-old dry grown Pinot Noir on an east facing slope of clay sandstone and quartz. After hand harvesting, the grapes were sorted, then destemmed with 10% whole bunches. Maceration was for 3 weeks followed by elevage was for 11 months in 3 year old barriques. The wine has bright natural acidity and many red fruits including cherries cranberry and plums. It has an earthy core with forest floor adding layers of complexity.
