White WineSadie Family Swartland Skerpioen 2023
The Sadie Family Swartland Skerpioen is a singular blend of Chenin Blanc and Palomino, sourced from dry-farmed, ungrafted bush vines rooted in limestone and shale soils near the Atlantic coastline. This vineyard, planted decades ago, benefits from cooling sea breezes and a moderate maritime climate, ensuring a slow ripening process that preserves natural acidity and enhances flavour complexity. The hand-harvested grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented naturally in old foudres, a technique that respects the wine's purity and terroir. Maturation on the lees for an extended period adds texture and depth without overshadowing the vibrant character of the fruit.
In the glass, Skerpioen reveals a taut, saline backbone, underscored by citrus zest, green almond, and subtle floral notes. The wine’s mineral intensity reflects its limestone-rich soils, while its layered texture offers a compelling interplay of freshness and depth. This is a wine of remarkable precision and balance, a true expression of its unique coastal origins and the Sadie Family's commitment to minimalist, terroir-driven winemaking.
