Bodega Barrera
Fortified WineBodegas Barrero C11 Oloroso
Bodegas Barrero is named for the family who have been the custodians of the historic Sánchez Ayala estate since 1986. Based in the Sherry triangle town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the Bodega sits one metre below sea level, just 400 metres from the ocean. Here, when left to age oxidatively, their barrels develop a thick layer of flor. Unusually for Sherry producers, Bodegas Barrero own their own vineyards, on chalky albariza soil in the pago of Balbaina.
This Oloroso is made of Palomino grapes, and fortified to 18% after fermentation. It ages oxidatively for 4 years in a traditional solera system of 500 litre bocoy casks. The resulting wine is dry and savoury, with a classic Oloroso profile of hazelnuts, dried fruit, and toasted wood.
