Suertes del Marqués
White WineSuertes del Marqués Tenerife Valle de la Orotava Vidonia 2021
The region of Vidonia was once renowned for its wines, celebrated throughout 17th-century Europe. Even Shakespeare himself made reference to it in The Merry Wives of Windsor, writing, “Farewell, my hearts: I will to my honest knight Falstaff, and drink canary with him.” Today, Suertes' Listán Blanco cuvées, made from old vines, have become some of the most distinctive white wines in Spain.
The grapes for this wine are grown in three vineyards located on the high slopes of Pico del Teide in the Valle de La Orotava, in northern Tenerife. The first vineyard, El Barranco, was planted with Listán Blanco over a century ago using the traditional trenzado (plaited) system. The second and third vineyards, La Solana and El Ciruelo, are nearby small plots with ungrafted vines. All of the vines used in this cuvée are over 100 years old and grow on volcanic and basaltic soils. The winemaking process is minimalist, with whole bunch pressing, natural fermentation in foudre, 11-months aging, and no filtration.
