Ray Chen is an accomplished wine expert who’s cred includes time as a viticultural researcher at Cornell University and oenologist for Treasury Wine Estates.
In 2021, she founded Rongo Wines in Victoria, Australia, following her seasoned ventures in the vineyards of New Zealand, France, and the United States. It is a vehicle for her winemaking philosophy, which focuses on a small-batch, low-intervention approach with locally sourced and sustainably farmed fruit. Every wine produced is crafted to complement the intricate flavours of Asian food.
90% Syrah and 10% Viognier, grown in Gruyere, Yarra Valley, co-fermented naturally and raised six months in neutral oak.
Several hours’ skin contact delivers a ruby clairette shade. Crème fraiche, crushed petal and blackberry lead the aromatics. The palate delivers blackberry and blackcurrant flavours (fresh and jubes), a long and a creamy texture, and a shake of baking spice.
