Sparkling WineWerkstatt Riesling Sekt Sur Lie 2024
Bridget Mac has trained and worked as an artist before making the move to winemaking, and has spent several vintages working with some of the finest winemakers in Australia and France.
The fruit for the 2024 Riesling Sekt is sourced from maritime, cool climate Mount Gambier. The soil profile is dominated by metamorphosed limestone. The vineyard is organically managed by viticulturists Mary and Guy Stratford.
2024 was an ideal vintage in Mount Gambier, mild, dry weather during most of the growing season, punctuated by a few hotter days to allow for perfect ripeness and expression of fruit. Made in the Method Traditional style. Grapes picked on 12th March. Whole bunch pressed, light pressing, all free run juice, juice treated oxidatively. Fermented in old French puncheons and kept on gross lees for 5 months.
Disgorgement (August 2026): 24 months on lees in bottle adds complexity, the dosage of 2.5 g/L balances perfectly.
On the nose expect green mango, savoury toast, and puffed rice showing alongside melaleuca honey, cucumber skin, and sea spray. The palate balances toasted brioche with bright lemon pith and wet stone minerality. A grippy texture and distinct salinity give depth and focus, carried by fresh acidity through a long back-palate finish with excellent bead and mousse retention.
