Ravensworth
White WineRavensworth Estate Riesling 2022
Bryan Martin was Tim Kirk’s assistant at Clonakilla for 20 years, but since 2019 he’s focused solely on his own winery, Ravensworth, in Murrumbateman, New South Wales. Established in 2001 with his wife Jocelyn, Ravensworth has earned critical acclaim, including winning the 2012 International Riesling Challenge. Martin’s unconventional approach blends classic regional wines with experimental varieties like Shiraz, Riesling, and Sangiovese, alongside Rhône whites, Gamay, and Nebbiolo. The estate is organically farmed, with minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar.
The 100% Riesling fruit was destemmed and pressed to 650-litre ceramic eggs after three to eight hours in contact with the skins. Maturation and malolactic conversion occurred in the same vessels over 11 months. The wine was then stirred and transferred to a six-year-old Stockinger foudre, where it rested for another 12 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered in April 2024.
