Red WineTruchard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Nestled in the Carneros region of Napa Valley lies the Truchard Estate Vineyard. Spanning 400 acres, this estate boasts rolling landscapes enriched with an array of soil types, from clay and shale to sandstone, limestone, and even volcanic remnants. This unique blend of geology, together with the marine-influenced climate, offers an optimal environment for grape cultivation. The estate's Cabernet Sauvignon thrives on the southwestern hillsides, with vines aging between 19 to 42 years, producing wines that are rich in color and bursting with flavors of plum, berry, and aromatic spices. To enhance its depth, the wine is blended with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, offering a harmonious structure and additional layers of flavor.
During the production, the grapes underwent a gentle destemming process before being crushed. The mixture was then inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast, and pump-overs were performed twice daily. With fermentation temperatures reaching a maximum of 88 F, the maceration lasted between 14 to 30 days, contingent on the specific vineyard block. Post fermentation, the wine matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, with 45% being new barrels. It was racked quarterly until it was deemed ready for bottling. The final concoction is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon at 88%, complemented by 10% Cabernet Franc, and 1% each of Petit Verdot and Malbec. While it has the potential to mature beautifully over a decade or even fifteen years, it's equally delightful to savor now.
