Château Potensac
Red WineChâteau Potensac Médoc 2012
Situated atop the Potensac plateau in the northern Medoc, Chateau Potensac derives its name from its geographic location. For multiple generations, the estate has remained under the stewardship of the Delon family. The property came into the Delon lineage when Jean Hubert Delon's grandfather wed a member of the Liquard family. Since then, it has been a legacy passed from one generation to the next.
The vineyard boasts vines that average nearly 50 years, with some venerable vines exceeding 80 years. The terrain is characterized by two sloping gradients, reaching a zenith of 35 meters. The harvest process incorporates both hand-picking and mechanized methods.
On appearance, the wine reveals a deep hue. It greets the senses with aromas of herbs, cedar, wild strawberries, and a hint of pepper. With a robust presence, its texture is rich and laden with tannins. There's a striking potency to it, brimming with flavors of kirsch and cassis, underlined by a notable acidity. It's a wine that demands patience to fully harmonize.
The 2012 Potensac has evolved beautifully since its barrel days, now showcasing a fuller body to balance its once-stark tannins. Its bouquet, initially reserved, gradually unfolds to reveal hints of raspberry, strawberry, and tobacco. The palate is rewarded with smooth blackberry flavors intertwined with nuances of tobacco and a touch of sea salt. The finish, reminiscent of Pauillac, brings forth elements of pencil lead and is impressively persistent. This distinguished Médoc creation from Jean-Hubert Delon promises a delightful evolution over the next decade or so.
