White WineRosi Schuster Furmint 2022
Native to neighbouring Hungary, and especially of Tokaj fame, the Furmint grape finds a natural home in this part of Austria. Historically, Furmint was the most widely planted white grape in the region. Today, it is experiencing a resurgence, thanks to skilled wineries like Schuster, Weininger, and especially Michael Wenzel in Rust.
This particular wine is crafted from three vineyards planted in 2016 in Oslep and Sankt Margarethen. It undergoes fermentation in large, old barrels of 500 and 1200 liters, with a portion also fermented in stainless steel before blending. The resulting wine is a stunning representation of Leithaberg's unique limestone and schist terroir.
