Red WineVinea Marson Nebbiolo 2016
The 2017 season showcased Nebbiolo in its prime, benefiting from a balanced growth period and an elongated fall. Heathcote's summer that year lacked the intense heat spikes, ensuring Nebbiolo, among the estate's Italian varieties, remained unaffected by potential scorching.
This vintage displays Nebbiolo's signature light, orange-tinted hue. The aroma captivates with a harmonious blend of both sweet and earthy elements - from tar to a citrusy amaro bite, enriched with vibrant cherries, redcurrants, and a dash of dried oregano.
Upon tasting, the red fruit undertones lean towards a sharper profile than the scent suggests, as tart cherries and redcurrants flow into darker notes of tar. The finale resonates with a unique bitterness, reminiscent of the digestive ferro chino, all while being enveloped by gentle, lingering tannins.
The 2017 Nebbiolo, having benefitted from prolonged barrel and bottle maturation, is primed for immediate enjoyment. However, for those with patience, it promises to evolve gracefully in the cellar for up to 15 years.
