Mee Godard
Red WineMee Godard Fleurie La Madone 2024
Established in 2013, Domaine Mee Godard has become one of Beaujolais' most respected contemporary producers, specialising in old-vine Gamay from Morgon, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. Her vineyards are farmed organically, with low yields, hand harvesting and an emphasis on individual vineyard character. La Madone takes its name from the chapel and statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking Fleurie, where steep, well-exposed slopes of weathered pink granite produce some of the appellation's most celebrated wines. The 2024 is made entirely from Gamay and reflects a challenging, relatively cool growing season marked by considerable rainfall and reduced yields. Despite these conditions, Godard has produced a wine of impressive concentration and finesse, combining fragrant red cherry and pomegranate with rose petals, star anise and subtle graphite notes. The palate is silky and finely structured, with delicate red fruit, fresh acidity and considerable tannic persistence. Its combination of floral perfume, savoury complexity and underlying structure promises further development with bottle age.
