Red WineEnvinate 'Migan' Tinto 2021
Envínate, which literally translates as ‘wine yourself’, is the project of four young passionate winemakers: Roberto Santana, Jose Martinez, Laura Ramos and Alfonso Torrente. The four met while studying oenology in Alicante in 2005 and formed a collective based on a shared philosophy of wine and a desire to explore the ancient,
Atlantic-influenced terroirs of western Spain. At the time this made them outliers, their university, and Spain as a whole was in the midst of a celebration of powerful wines and new, ‘safer,’ technologies for the vineyard and winery. Yet the four friends were intoxicated by the hedonistic old-world characters of more traditionally made wine and by the possibilities presented by light coloured, high acid varietals in the forgotten corners of Spain. It’s a big step forward for the team and it means an amazing array
of new wines springing from previously unexplored corners of Tenerife.
Migan is very old vine wines from the Valle de la Orotava zone, although they don’t bear the DO stamp. The old vines are trained in the Trezendo fashion: braiding new shoots over older ones until the vines begin to resemble dreadlocks weaving over the
landscape. The terrain is flatter than Táganan and so more conducive to farming. Migan is two parcels of Listán Negro, both over 100 years old.
