Greek Wines

Most people are acutely aware of the ancient heritage Greece enjoys, and the influence that its most ancient nationhood bestows on its culture and society. This is evident wherever traditional winemaking persists.

Though modernity is front and centre for much of Greece’s most successful wineries, small producers exist throughout Greece, and there’s a lot of tradition preserved by these farmers.

Santorini is famous for producing Assyrtiko, and Nemea for Agiorgitiko. Indigenous varieties such as Xinomavro and Moschofilero are now produced throughout Greece, but the island of Crete holds many ampelographic and viticultural stories and mysteries that are still being unearthed and rediscovered. With traditions rooted in antiquity and modern innovation, Greece is not to be overlooked.
