Khutsaidze Kisi Qvevri 2020
100% Kisi from Tsinandali, in Kakheti, that spends six-months on skins in traditional qvevri. A structured and savoury amber wine with a notes of dried apples, stonefruit, and quince; wildflowers and toasted nuts. Full bodied and grippy on the palate, with a round and layered texture, this plays well with intense savoury flavours, including aged hard cheese, roast vegetable dishes, Indian spices, and grilled meats.
Georgia has one of the oldest wine cultures in the world, with evidence of winemaking dating back 8000 years. Wine is traditionally fermented and aged in Qvevri, huge underground terracotta vessels Because of the difficulty of racking the wine off the grape skins, both white and red wines undergo extended periods of skin contact, producing Georgia's well known amber wines.
Vakho and Giorgo Khutsaidze make their Qvevri wines following their ancestors' methods. The brothers are part of a wave of young, progressive winemakers in Georgia combining traditional practices with modern twists.
