Eyrie
White WineEyrie Pinot Gris 2020
In the winter of 1965, a young David Lett ventured to Oregon with a dream and 3,000 grape cuttings. He had earned his degree in viticulture and enology from UC/Davis and done research in Europe, and now he was ready to make history. He founded the Eyrie,Vineyards in the Red Hills of Dundee, about 30 miles southwest of Portland, where red-tailed hawks made their home. It was here that he planted the first Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and related varieties in the Willamette Valley - as well as the very first Pinot Gris in America.
The 2020 vintage of this unique white wine shows off its rosy-purple hue when fully ripe. The aromas are complex and inviting: straw, mango, tangerine and melon mingle with jasmine and camellia notes while smokey loam lingers in the background. On the palate it is supple yet lush with spicy stone-fruit flavors balanced by star-bright acidity and a faceted limestone element. The finish brings a hint of grapefruit astringency for an overall delightful experience.
The Eyrie,Vineyards Pinot Gris 2020 is truly special - a testament to David Lett's pioneering spirit that continues to shape Oregon's wine industry today.
