Eleven Sons
White WineEleven Sons Cabane Beige 2023
This Semillon from the Limestone Coast has something in common with a topped-up Jura Savagnin: green apples, raw dough, grapefruit skin, and a salinity reflecting its seaside growing conditions. Generous and fleshy, with lees work lending the wine length and texture on the palate.
Made from 20 short rows of Semillon, backing on to a beige shed at the Ellis family vineyard on South Australia's limestone coast. Picked late and always marked with botrytis, the grapes are direct pressed to ceramic egg and neutral oak, where the wine spends a year on lees.
Mitch Sokolin's Eleven Sons winery is based in Torquay, and he makes wine on the Limestone Coast, but also sources fruit from the Pyrenees and Heathcote for several wines. All of his wines are bottled without additions.
The intricate literary references and metaphors are rather perfect reflections of the wines Mitch produces. Thoroughly enjoyable to drink, but intellectual, intricate, and cerebrally stimulating.
