Red WinePeter Wetzer Kékfrankos 2023
Wetzer’s village-level Kékfrankos brings together several organically farmed parcels around Sopron, mostly on the region’s mica-schist with pockets of clay and sand. The 2023 vintage is bright, lifted and exceptionally pure, fermented spontaneously with whole berries in open vats before ageing in old Hungarian barrels. The wine leads with sour cherry, wild strawberry, rose, and savoury spice, framed by fine, lightly herbal tannins and a cool camphor inflected mineral line. Compared with the single-vineyard bottlings, this cuvée is more open, red-fruited and immediate.
