Bott Pince
White WineBott Pince Tokaji Szamorodni Száraz 2020
Judit Bott and her husband Jóska moved to Tokaj in 2000. Judit was a graduate of agricultural college, and Jóska a student of art history. Together, they founded Bott Pince, taking over management of well-established old vines in the famed wine region's volcanic hills.
Today they manage their vineyards organically, and continue to explore their terroirs through single vineyard expressions of the indigenous grapes Furmint and Hárslevelű. As well as their traditional Aszú sweet wines, and historical botrytised Szamorodni wines, Bott Pince's tiny production of dry wines are a significant contribution to the emergence of modern dry winemaking in Tokaj.
Szamorodni is a harvest style, where whole bunches of grapes including some botritized berries are picked and vinified together. The resulting wine may be sweet or dry, and is aged under flor for at least six months in oak casks. Along with Samuel Tinon, Bott Pince are one of the only remaining producers of this historical style.
This Szamorodni Száraz (dry Szamorodni) is remniscent of sherry, and other flor aged wines. It shows Botrytis influence through notes of beeswax, marmalade, and apricot fruit, with the influence of flor ageing lending a nutty character, and a leanness on the palate. Drink chilled as an aperitif or digestif, or pair with hard cheeses and nuts.
