Puro Rofe
White WinePuro Rofe 'Juan Bello' Blanco 2022
Puro Rofe is a young project. The first commercially released vintage was in 2018, although they made wine in 2016 and 2017 before fully committing to the project. It comprises extremely talented young winemaker and Canary native Carmelo Pena, with
viticulture handled by Vicente Tower, an artist by trade and a Lanzarote local whose family vineyards provide the backbone of the project. Vicente farms organically, as his family always has and, most importantly on the desert-like island, does not irrigate.
The vineyards they maintain are spectacular, with vines well over 100 years old planted in wells with little stone walls to protect them from the ferocious trade winds that batter the island. And so far, the wines they’ve produced show amazing potential: vibrant, lean and high acid, something akin to a salt-licked, volcanic Savennieres.
Rofe Blanco is from a 100-year-old vineyard in La Geria that produces complex, poised whites.
