Gravner
White WineGravner Ribolla 2014
Spread across thirty-two hectares, with eighteen dedicated to vines, lies a prime Ribolla Gialla-producing region in Oslavia in the Collio - an unofficial grand cru. Gravner is distinguished in Italy for pioneering minimal-intervention wines, notably using extended macerations and being among the early adopters of amphoras for aging. The wines from Gravner stand unparalleled in terms of finesse, purity, precision, and depth, setting them apart from most in both the region and nation. Historically, the estate has always showcased unmatched expertise, crafting exceptional wines even before the era of amphoras and long macerations.
Currently, the estate is dedicated to restoring a natural equilibrium in its vineyards. Efforts include establishing ponds and introducing diverse vegetation, like wild apple trees and olive groves, to foster a vibrant ecosystem. There’s a conscious shift from contemporary techniques, eliminating certain equipment and vessels, including barriques. Over time, Gravner has also phased out several grape varieties like Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Grigio. Their Ribolla Gialla wines age gracefully, and while they treat white wines akin to reds, their excellence is undeniable. Another standout is the Rosso Breg, crafted from Pignolo, the only remaining red grape on the estate. Typically known for its robust tannins, Gravner's iteration is exceptionally intricate and velvety.
