Johanneshof Reinisch
White WineJohanneshof Reinisch Tradition Gumpoldskirchen 2022
Hailing from the quaint village of Gumpoldskirchen, the Gumpoldskirchner Tradition Johanneshof Reinisch showcases a blend of Zierfandler and Rotgipfler, two indigenous white grape varieties from Austria's Thermenregion. Johanneshof Reinisch's goal with this blend is to encapsulate the distinctive essence of these varieties. Harvested from various vineyards within Gumpoldskirchen, the grapes undergo individual fermentation. They are then masterfully blended and matured in sizable oak casks for four months before being bottled, ensuring a harmonious union of flavors.
Situated in Tattendorf, within the wine-rich Thermenregion of Lower Austria, the estate rests atop geothermal hot springs that weave beneath the vineyards, creating a perfect nurturing environment for the vines. The estate, currently managed by Johann Reinisch's trio of sons - Hannes, Michael, and Christian, spans 40 hectares and proudly stands as a testament to the region's 2,000-year wine-making legacy. With vineyards comprised of 65% red and 35% white vines, their Pinot Noir and St. Laurent varieties shine, drawing nutrients from both the chalk-laden gravel terrains of Tattendorf and the fertile lands of Gumpoldskirchen.
For the Reinisch family, local grapes and age-old traditions are paramount. With their very own vine nursery, they champion the cultivation of rare local varieties, particularly Rotgipfler and Zierfandler, in their Gumpoldskirchen plots. Globally, these indigenous varieties span merely about 100 hectares, making the Reinisch wines a rare, authentic reflection of Austrian wine heritage. An organic approach permeates the Reinisch family's practices, showcasing their commitment from the vineyard, through the cellar, and into every bottle.
